چکیده

Abstract The present study aims to formulate a new multiscale constitutive model of human trabecular bone. bone was modelled as nonlinear viscoelastic material. effects single trabeculae were considered by means hereditary integral in which stress depends on time and strain, while the elastic response described hyperelastic Mooney–Rivlin model. cuboid sample extracted from femoral head during hip replacement surgery. material constants equation identified based relaxation test performed microindentation tests using curve-fitting procedure. spherical tip instead Vickers or Berkovich minimize plastic deformation. In order validate formulated model, results FE simulation uniaxial compression compared corresponding experiments conducted macroscopic sample. Good agreement observed between numerical experimental results. behaviour predicted proposed corresponds well under various types load conditions. This demonstrates high ability our simulate micro- scale. Thus, we conclude that for trabecula, can be successfully applied mechanical tissue macroscale.

Multi-scale modelling of elastic moduli of trabecular bone.

We model trabecular bone as a nanocomposite material with hierarchical structure and predict its elastic properties at different structural scales. The analysis involves a bottom-up multi-scale approach, starting with nanoscale (mineralized collagen fibril) and moving up the scales to sub-microscale (single lamella), microscale (single trabecula) and mesoscale (trabecular bone) levels. Shear strength behavior of human trabecular bone.

The shear strength of human trabecular bone may influence overall bone strength under fall loading conditions and failure at bone-implant interfaces. Here, we sought to compare shear and compressive yield strengths of human trabecular bone and elucidate the underlying failure mechanisms. We analyzed 54 specimens (5-mm cubes), all aligned with the main trabecular orientation and spanning four an...

Hierarchical analysis and multi-scale modelling of rat cortical and trabecular bone.

The aim of this study was to explore the hierarchical arrangement of structural properties in cortical and trabecular bone and to determine a mathematical model that accurately predicts the tissue's mechanical properties as a function of these indices. By using a variety of analytical techniques, we were able to characterize the structural and compositional properties of cortical and trabecular...

Analysis of Trabecular Bone Multiaxial Failure Using Large Scale Computation

INTRODUCTION Multiaxial failure behavior of trabecular bone is important clinically since multiaxial loads occur in vivo, and are associated with hip fractures [1, 2] and implant loosening [3]. Knowledge of the multiaxial failure behavior of trabecular bone also has biological importance since it will enable whole bone finite element models [4] to accurately predict failure loads. To date, no c...
